A guide to door entry systems & smart doorbells
In the last few years there’s been a huge increase in innovation around ‘door entry systems’. No longer are you limited to the old school doorbell or expensive ‘intercom system’, instead there’s a wide range of different high-spec products on offer, which broadly breakdown into x3 types of system:
> Smart doorbell
> Door intercom (video or audio)
> Access Control (commercial sites)
If you’re wanting to keep an eye on people snooping around your property, then a smart door bell (i.e. a door bell with a wifi camera integrated into it) is a good option - as it means that you can easily see who’s at your front door, and also remotely let them in (if you attach the remote open function).
Key features of Smart Doorbells include:
> Remote app viewing - so you can see who’s at your door
> 2-way audio - so you can talk to them
> Remote door-opening - the ability to open your door remotely (if you wish to let in a Amazon delivery driver for example)
Door intercom system
If you’re looking for something more permanent and physically more robust (and bigger!) then a more traditional door intercom system is best for your needs.
The key options around door intercom systems are:
> Video or Audio: whether you want a camera-integrated so that you can see who’s at your door, or just have an audio-only system
> Flush or surface-mounted: whether you want your intercom surface-mounted or flush-mounted (within the door surround itself). N.B. flush-mounted systems require a lot more work, and are ideal for house-renovation situations, when you’re doing existing building work.
All intercom systems come with ‘remote door opening’ as standard, meaning that you can let people in remotely at the press of a button.
AMCO sells a standard and premium range of door entry systems. The standard range is made by SuperVu, and the premium range by BPT. Each comes with a video (or audio) intercom along with a remote handset. N.B. these systems are wired only.
Access Control (Commercial only)
If you're a business looking to upgrade your access control systems, AMCO can provide a range of different solutions - depending on the specific needs of your site. Access control systems can be used for a range of uses including:
> Managing access to specific areas of a building (e.g. only giving C-Suite access to management rooms)
> Tracking employees entry / exit to work buildings
> Connecting to CCTV and alarm systems for a fully-integrated system
The two main systems we use Paxton and Pac8, and can tailor these two for your specific needs.
