Key technical considerations for 4G CCTV
No broadband at the property? A 4G-connected CCTV system can work well - but it behaves differently to a wired system. Here's an honest look at what actually affects it.
When 4G CCTV makes sense
4G is the right fit when there's genuinely no broadband available - a remote or rural site, a new-build before a line is installed, a temporary setup, or a property being monitored ahead of full occupation. If broadband already exists at the property, a standard wired or WiFi CCTV system (see our equipment specifications) is usually the more reliable and cost-effective choice.
Mobile signal reliability
A 4G CCTV feed is only as reliable as the mobile network coverage at your property - the same signal you'd get on a phone there. AMCO can't guarantee network performance since it depends on third-party mobile operators, not us.
Monthly data allowance
Unlike broadband, 4G CCTV runs on a capped mobile data SIM (commonly around 100GB/month). That allowance has to be shared sensibly across video quality and recording frequency.

Quality vs. frequency: the real trade-off
With a limited data allowance, you can't usually have unlimited high-quality, continuous streaming. In practice, AMCO recommends leaning towards slightly lower video quality with continuous, frequent recording, over very high quality that can only run intermittently before the data allowance runs out. Reliably catching an event matters more than maximum resolution on a handful of clips.
