Frequently asked questions
The questions we're asked most often about AMCO's monitored alarm systems, contracts, warranty and support. Can't find your answer here? See why AMCO or give us a call.
Everything you need to know
Yes. Traditional 'bells-only' systems (with no connection to a monitoring centre) are available, and give you the option to upgrade to full 24/7 monitoring later on if your needs change.
Take a look at our wireless alarm system options to see the range of equipment and monitoring levels available.
Yes. 24/7 telephone technical support is included as standard within your monthly monitoring cost, and your system also undergoes automatic remote health checks so most faults are picked up before you even notice them. Find out more about how we keep systems running via our alarm maintenance service.
Equipment comes with a manufacturer/installation warranty as standard, and any covered failure during that period is repaired free of charge.
No monitoring company can guarantee that the police will attend - response is always subject to police resources and priorities at the time. What LiveTalk's audio verification does give you (and video verification, where a property has monitored CCTV) is much stronger evidence that a genuine break-in is in progress than a traditional alarm alone can provide, which is a real advantage when it comes to how seriously an incident is treated.
AMCO has engineers and customers right across the UK. Give us a call on 0800 13 03 999 and we can confirm coverage for your postcode.
There's a minimum initial contract term, after which you're free to leave with reasonable notice. Because AMCO sells (rather than rents) your equipment, and installs standard Texecom and Ajax hardware rather than proprietary kit, you're never locked into AMCO specifically if you do decide to move on - another company can take over the system that's already in your property.
Exact current contract terms are set out on our pricing comparison page, and full detail is in our terms and conditions.
SSAIB and NSI certification is available on AMCO monitored systems, but insurance requirements vary by insurer and policy, so always confirm your specific policy's requirements directly with your insurer. Our alarm insurance specifications page has the detail most insurers ask for.
It doesn't depend on a phone line the way older systems used to. BT closed its Redcare service in December 2025, and the whole UK PSTN (traditional phone line) network is being switched off by January 2027, so current AMCO installations connect over broadband/IP or GSM mobile signal instead of a landline connection.
Even a 'wireless' alarm still needs its central hub/communicator wired into a power source, so a small amount of cabling to the panel or hub itself is normal - but your system no longer depends on a phone line to work. Read more on our switching from analogue to IP page.
Standard provision includes your own personal alarm code and multiple arming modes - for example full arm (whole property) and part arm (e.g. downstairs only, so you can arm perimeter protection while still moving around upstairs). More advanced programming and additional user codes can be discussed directly with your installer.
