Case Study: How AMCO's Monitored Alarm Stopped a Vehicle Theft
On 16th November 2015, two men attempted to steal a motor home from Priory Car & Vans in Accrington. The site was protected by an AMCO monitored alarm system, and the attempt didn't go to plan for the would-be thieves.
How the Incident Unfolded
CCTV footage shows one of the intruders trying to force open the site's gates while his accomplice climbed the fence to look for a vehicle to steal. The AMCO alarm system was triggered almost immediately, and our monitoring team began challenging the intruders directly through the site's speaker system.
Startled by the live audio challenge, the intruders panicked. One jumped into the nearest motor home and struggled to start it, while the other continued trying to force the gate open. AMCO's monitoring team had already alerted the police and the property owner, and officers were en route.
When the engine finally started, the driver accelerated towards the gate to force it open, without warning his accomplice, who was struck by the vehicle in the process. The driver fled the scene but was quickly intercepted and arrested by police, along with his accomplice.
Why LiveTalk Monitoring Made the Difference
This case highlights the real-world impact of immediate audio-response monitoring. Because AMCO's team could listen in and challenge the intruders directly, in real time, rather than waiting for a standard alarm signal to be processed, the situation escalated quickly in the thieves' favour to work against them instead. Police were already on their way before the intruders had a real chance to succeed.
