How it works

How LiveTalk works, step by step

LiveTalk works differently from a typical burglar alarm. Here's exactly what happens, from the moment a sensor triggers to police response.

  1. 1

Sensor activation dials the monitoring station

The moment a sensor is triggered, your LiveTalk communicator automatically dials AMCO's monitoring station - over a phone line, or GSM/mobile network as a backup.

  2. 2

AMCO staff listen into the property

Once connected, a member of AMCO's monitoring team can listen in through the property's speaker microphone unit to assess what's actually happening.

  3. 3

    A verbal challenge is issued

If it sounds like someone's there, staff issue a clear, loud verbal challenge through the speaker: “Intruder detected, please identify yourself.”

  4. 4

You respond with your safe or duress word

If it's really you, you give your pre-agreed SAFE password to confirm your identity and stand the alert down. If something's wrong and you're not able to speak freely, a separate DURESS password quietly signals that you need help.

  5. 5

Police are alerted if there's no safe word

If no safe password is given and an unidentified person is still on-site, AMCO alerts the police with a confirmed-activation report, and can talk directly into the property to let the intruder know police are on their way.

  6. 6

    Your keyholders are notified

Alongside any emergency response, your registered keyholders are called to make sure everyone who needs to know about the activation does.

Common questions about LiveTalk

Both are short passwords you agree with AMCO in advance. Giving your safe word confirms to the monitoring team that everything is fine. Giving your duress word instead - even though it sounds calm - secretly tells them you need help, without alerting anyone who might be listening.
Call-back monitoring just phones a keyholder after an activation, with no way to confirm what's actually happening. LiveTalk's audio-response means a real person listens and talks into the property within seconds, so a genuine break-in gets a confirmed, faster police response.
LiveTalk communicators use GSM/mobile network as a backup path, so the system can still reach AMCO's monitoring station even if a landline is cut.
Yes - the same listen-and-respond principle applies to monitored smoke detectors and personal/medical alarms, not just intruder activations.
