How to change the battery in a Texecom Premier alarm
A closer look at picking and fitting the correct panel battery for a Texecom Premier system - and, if you're on a wireless setup, keeping your sensor batteries topped up too.
Wired and wireless Premier systems need different care
Unlike the older Veritas range, a Premier system's battery needs depend heavily on whether your sensors are wired or wireless - this is the key thing to establish before you start.
Wired Premier systems
Every sensor is hard-wired back to the panel, so there's nothing to power separately - you only ever need to replace the main panel's backup battery.
Wireless Premier systems
Door contacts, PIRs and other sensors run on their own batteries, so a wireless install needs both the panel backup battery and periodic sensor battery changes to keep everything reporting correctly.
Have an older Texecom Veritas or R8 panel instead? See our Veritas R8 battery replacement guide , or read more about the Premier alarm system range itself.
Not sure if your Premier system is wired or wireless?
Send us a photo of your panel and sensors and we'll confirm your setup and the exact batteries you need.
Premier panel battery options compared
Every Premier panel - wired or wireless - takes one of these 12V backup batteries. Which capacity was originally fitted depends on your panel model and system size.
| Capacity | Notes |
|---|---|
| 2.1ah | Compact option for smaller installs |
| 3.4ah | The reliable default - fits most installations |
| 7ah | Larger capacity for bigger systems |
Panel batteries and wireless sensor batteries are both available from SmartSecurity.Store, AMCO's sister company - genuine products backed by a 12-month guarantee, rather than unbranded listings of uncertain quality.
Replacing a wireless sensor battery
If your Premier system is wireless, each sensor has its own battery to replace when it runs low - here's the seven-step process.
- 1
Locate the sensor
Find the sensor showing the depleted or low-battery warning on your keypad or app.
- 2
Disable the tamper first
Removing the cover triggers a tamper alarm unless it's disabled - have your code or fob ready before you start.
- 3
Remove the retaining screw
Undo the single screw on the bottom of the sensor housing.
- 4
Open the case
Carefully pry the housing open, starting from the bottom edge and working it free.
- 5
Swap the battery
Take out the old battery and insert the replacement, matching the polarity of the one you removed.
- 6
Refit the cover
Reinstall the cover by inserting the top edge first, then clipping the bottom into place.
- 7
Replace the screw
Reattach the retaining screw to finish, then re-enable the system and confirm the sensor is reporting normally.
Safety warning
Every wireless sensor has a tamper switch. Opening the case without disabling it first will trigger an alarm - always disarm with your code or fob before you remove a cover.
