How-to guide

How to test your monitored alarm system

It's worth periodically checking that your system and our monitoring centre are responding to each other correctly. It only takes a couple of minutes and doesn't require any engineer visit.

4 simple steps

Testing your system takes a couple of minutes

Step 1

Set your alarm as if leaving normally

Press FULL or enter your 4-digit code as you normally would when leaving the property. Then open and close your entry/exit door while staying inside, just as you would if you were coming back in.

Step 2

Trigger a sensor

Walk into a room covered by one of your sensors and make sure it detects you, the same way it would detect an intruder.

Step 3

Wait for the monitoring response

Within roughly 30-60 seconds of the sensor detecting you, you should hear a voice from AMCO's monitoring centre come through the speaker/microphone unit in your house, along the lines of “you are under surveillance, please identify yourself”.

Step 4

If nothing happens

If you don't hear a response, the system isn't responding correctly and you should contact AMCO support to arrange a paid engineer visit rather than trying to diagnose it yourself. See our alarm maintenance service for what this covers.
