Guide to monitored smoke alarms

A smoke detector can only do one thing: make noise. If nobody's home to hear it, that's all it will ever do.

A standard smoke detector is a simple device. It senses smoke, and it sounds an alarm. That's genuinely useful if you're in the house at the time - but if the property is empty, a smoke detector on its own is effectively useless. It can't call anyone. It can't do anything except make a noise that nobody is there to hear, for as long as its battery lasts.

Connecting your existing smoke detectors - or new ones - into AMCO's LiveTalk alarm monitoring changes that. Instead of an alarm going off into an empty room, our monitoring centre is watching around the clock. If a fire breaks out while nobody's home, someone still knows about it, and someone can act on it - calling the fire service, keyholders, or you directly.

What monitored detection has caught before

Our monitoring team once responded to a customer who was unconscious in their home when an electric fault set a rug alight. Because their smoke detection was monitored, the alarm was picked up straight away and emergency services were sent to the property - rather than the fire going completely unnoticed.

That's the difference monitoring makes - it's not about a louder alarm, it's about someone actually being there to respond when you can't be.

Already got an alarm? Ask about adding monitored smoke detection

If you've already got a monitored alarm with AMCO, adding fire detection is usually a simple upgrade. Not sure what your current system can do? Have one of our engineers take a look first.
