A day in the life of an AMCO field service engineer

Thinking about a career as a security engineer? Here's a straightforward look at what the role actually involves - the variety, the training, and the skills that help engineers thrive.

Varied, hands-on work

What the role actually looks like

It's not a desk job - and it's rarely the same day twice. Engineers combine time on the road with hands-on technical work and plenty of direct customer contact.

On the road

Most days start with a run of customer site visits in a company vehicle, covering a mix of homes and businesses across your patch. No two routes look quite the same.

Installs, repairs & maintenance

The core of the job - fitting new intruder alarm and CCTV systems, diagnosing faults, and carrying out routine maintenance so existing systems keep working the way they should.

Face-to-face with customers

Every visit is a chance to explain what you're doing in plain English, put a nervous customer at ease, and leave them confident their system is looked after properly.

Never standing still

Training doesn't stop once you're up to speed

Security technology moves fast, so AMCO builds ongoing development into the job itself - not something squeezed in around it. Both tie into the wider AMCO Academy training programme.

Regular training days

Structured sessions to keep your skills current, refresh the fundamentals, and make sure new starters and experienced engineers alike are working to the same standard.

Innovation days

Dedicated time to test and trial new equipment before it reaches customers, so engineers stay hands-on with the latest technology rather than finding out about it after the fact.
