CSL DualCom is one of the most widely used dual-path signalling technologies in the UK, and it's a product range AMCO's engineers work with every day - from brand-new installations to swapping out old BT Redcare communicators that can no longer signal a monitoring station. Whether you need a first-time install, a replacement unit, or ongoing maintenance, this is where to start.
1) Why choose AMCO as your DualCom installer
- SSAIB/NSI-compliant installs - every DualCom switch-over is tested to British Standards, whether it's a new installation or a Redcare replacement.
- Fast quotations - most quotes are completed in under 10 minutes over the phone, with no site visit needed just to get a price.
- Quick turnaround - a typical switch-over installation takes roughly 2-3 hours, so there's minimal disruption to your property.
- Works with your existing panel - in most cases we can keep your existing wired alarm system and sensors in place and simply replace the communicator.

2) The CSL DualCom product range
CSL's current range covers three main options, each suited to slightly different sites:
GradeShift Pro
Dual-path signalling, DP3/DP4-rated - the standard choice for insurance-compliant monitored alarms.
DigiAir Pro
A GSM-first single-path communicator, suited to sites where a second signalling path isn't required.
CSL 4G router
A dedicated 4G router option, useful as a primary or backup connection where fixed broadband is unreliable.
For the full technical detail on fitting and commissioning any of these - signal assessment, wiring, panel compatibility and LED diagnostics - see our CSL DualCom installation guide. If you already have a DualCom fitted and it's stopped communicating, our CSL DualCom troubleshooting guide covers the most common causes. Manufacturer information is also available directly from CSL Group.
3) What is DP3 dual-path signalling?
DP3stands for “Dual Path” signalling grade 3 - it means the communicator maintains two independent signalling paths to the alarm receiving centre (ARC), with a critical failure-reporting check-in every 3 minutes between the communicator and the ARC. If one path fails, the other keeps the alarm monitored, and the loss of a path is itself reported as a fault. This is the signalling grade most UK insurers require for higher-value or higher-risk premises. See our guide to intruder alarm system grades for how signalling grade fits alongside the rest of your alarm's specification. DualCom's GradeShift Pro variant is DP3/DP4-rated; DigiAir Pro is a single-path device and isn't DP3-compliant on its own.
4) BT Redcare has closed - what this means
BT formally closed its Redcare signalling service on 15 December 2025, and the wider UK PSTN (analogue phone) network is being switched off nationally by 31 January 2027. Any alarm still using a phone-line communicator - including older Redcare units, which many wired alarm systems relied on regardless of who installed them - needs to move to an IP/GSM-based communicator such as DualCom.
In most cases the existing wired alarm system and sensors can stay exactly as they are; it's just the communicator and monitoring connection that need replacing. A typical switch-over takes roughly 2-3 hours and is tested to British Standards (NSI/SSAIB compliant) as standard. For the fuller step-by-step picture of what's changing and why, see our analogue-to-IP switch-over guide.
5) Other options worth knowing about
DualCom isn't the only dual-path option on the market - it's worth knowing what else is out there:
- Addsecure - another BT Redcare-replacement communicator brand used across the UK alarm industry, offering similar dual-path signalling to DualCom.
- AMCO LiveTalk- our own audio-response monitoring, and a genuine dual-path alternative to a “silent” DualCom-only setup. Rather than just signalling an alert, LiveTalk lets our monitoring team listen in and speak to an intruder directly through the property's own speaker/microphone unit.
Not sure which is right for your property? Speak to one of our engineers and we'll recommend the best fit rather than a one-size-fits-all answer.
6) Getting a quote
Most CSL DualCom quotes - whether a brand-new install or a Redcare replacement - are completed in under 10 minutes over the phone. If you're not sure what's currently fitted at your property, that's fine; our team can usually work it out from a few quick questions, or arrange a free site visit if needed. If you'd rather see current pricing first, visit our price comparison page, or if you're upgrading an older system generally, see our alarm upgrade options.
