Fire & smoke monitoring

Monitored fire & smoke alarms for home or business

What actually happens when a monitored smoke detector activates? A real person hears about it around the clock - and can listen in to confirm the fire before sending help.

Step by step

What happens when a monitored detector activates

A silent signal can only tell us something has triggered. Two-way audio lets us find out what's really going on.

01

The detector activates

Smoke is sensed by a detector that's connected to AMCO's monitoring station, so the signal doesn't just stay in the building.

02

Our station receives it, 24/7

The activation reaches our monitoring station straight away, any hour of any day - whether or not anyone is on site.

03

Staff listen and speak

Through the speaker and microphone units, our team can listen to what's happening and speak to anyone there, to confirm whether it's a real fire.

04

The right people are called

If it's a real fire, we contact the fire service. If it turns out to be a false alarm, it can be cancelled without an unnecessary emergency call-out.

The same speaker-and-microphone technology is explained in how LiveTalk works and on our LiveTalk page.

Who it's for

Protecting a home or a business

For your home

If a fire starts while you're out, asleep or unable to respond, a monitored detector means someone else knows about it and can act - rather than the alarm simply sounding in an empty house. For a real example, see our monitored smoke alarm guide.

For your business

Shops, offices and workshops are often empty overnight and at weekends - exactly when an unnoticed fire does the most damage. Monitored smoke detection gives the premises a 24/7 watcher, alongside your intruder protection.

See our business security systems

Want to see monitoring at work on a real incident? Read some of our burglar alarm stories. Living with an older or vulnerable relative? A monitored medical alarm can sit alongside smoke detection.

An honest note for businesses

Smoke detection connected to an intruder or monitored alarm adds valuable early warning, but it is not a substitute for a fully certified fire alarm system where one is legally required for your business. Requirements depend on your premises and use, so check what applies to you. Our page on alarm monitoring and British Standards is a good place to start.
